The Rockstar Energy Drink skate team, Rune Glifberg,
Omar Hassan, Bucky Lasek, Lincoln Ueda, Rob Lorifice, and Sergie
Ventura charged the combi pool this year at the highly anticipated
Vans Pro-Tec Pool Party at The Block at Orange. When the dust settled, it was
Team Rockstar taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively. Dave Duncan, Rockstar Energy
Drink skate team manager and one of the original Alva team riders, explains
this comp best when he says, “the North Shore is the proving ground for the
surf world, the combi pool is the proving ground for kateboarding”. Duncan has
been around since the beginning of the comp to see it rise to the level it has
today. Actually having helped to build and design the combi pool makes him the
skate guru on this core competition. Skaters of all ages, from groms to OG’s,
pack the Vans indoor skate park to catch some of the grimey goods up close and
personal. The Rockstar Energy drink skate team do not disappoint the crowd in
the burly jam session format, along with the rest of the world’s best skaters,
to give the skate industry their daily dose of organized chaos. This hectic
battle for lines and time in the pool is insanely charged with speed and sweat.
Just landing on US soil from Denmark, Rune won the knock down drag out, and
took home the $25,000, with an intense backside tail slide through the square
corner to shove-it out and a switch kick flip in the round bowl. Omar Hassan
followed his team mate’s lead with solid fast lines, a switch 50-50 in the square
corner, and a few lip slide roll in’s, grabbing $15,000 and landing second place.
Bucky who has been working hard on a sick new bag of tricks dazzled the crowd
and the judges with his “Guy Ritchie” or nollie flip Madonna, Mctwist’s, front
side rodeo 540’s, and backside tail slides in the square. Lasek cements the
sweep by grabbing the 3rd place spot and took home his share of the Pro-Tec
pie, a healthy $7, 500. Adding to the
Rockstar Energy Drink victory, Sergie Ventura makes Combi Bowl history with the first evertransfer from square to round over the hip.
